WOW! Where on Earth did the time go? 2019 has absolutely flown; but it’s been a year of rapid change and remarkable growth. KLM Empowered took a massive leap forward by establishing our KLM Empowered Head Quarters in Bedfordview, launching a new division of the company, the Knowledge X-Change Centre of Leadership Excellence and repositioning our much loved and renowned Business Centre in Bruma to be the Knowledge X-Change Centre of Business Excellence.
With inclusion and diversity, and gender equality front of mind, we’ve remained committed to driving an evolutionary mindset towards transformation with our core focus being on developing a home grown and diverse talent pipeline, and leaders to be 4IR ready. Our word of the year became Novaturient because the desire for positive transformation and the importance of honouring our humanness has been at the heart of everything we’ve done and continue to do.
KLM Empowered’s first satellite facility, the Knowledge X-Change Centre of Leadership Excellence, is an evolutionary one-of-a-kind, leadership development enabler designed to equip leaders with a new set of leadership skills to keep up with the rapid pace of change and embrace new, integrated ways of working and innovating.
We officially launched our new immersive center on 12 September. It was an exciting, interactive event complete with VR painting, a guest appearance from Pepper the Robot and a panel discussion on the forces shaping our world today with Futurist Pieter Geldenhuys, Breathwork Africa founder Dr Ela Manga and CEO of KLM Empowered Lyn Mansour.
The Centre is home to KLM Empowered’s MasterClasses and GROW JAM Sessions, designed to support and develop conscious business and agile leaders who can thrive in the digital landscape of the fourth industrial revolution.
We’d like to extend final congratulations to the Learners, Leaders and Graduates who passed through our doors this year. We had a stellar tour of graduations across the country in April. From Cape Town to Durban and finally ending in Johannesburg with an awesome ceremony at which special Guest Group General Counsel of Naspers David Tudor, flew in from Amsterdam to give a moving talk on leadership.
December has been brought to a close on such a high with our final Graduation ceremony of the year, in partnership with Accenture. We went big and it was beautiful! Themed around personal impact, the emotive ceremony had everyone inspired to make their individual mark in the world an impressionable and positive one. The audience was captivated by a keynote address delivered by Accenture’s Africa Director of Integrated Marketing & communications, and Women’s Forum Lead, Ntombi Mhangwani, on the importance of innovation, agility, EQ and equality. Another profound message was delivered by Accenture Inclusion & Diversity and Corporate Citizenship Lead Khethiwe kuna, who asked, in the spirit of Ubuntu, that Graduates “Do for others as has been done for you. Each one teach one.” Dell EMC Development Fund Lead, Clerrene Muller and Mr Sibusiso Dhlamini, Executive HR Director of PG Bison shared their words of wisdom too.
We at KLM Empowered are continually grateful for the incredible partnerships we have forged over the years and the opportunity to continue to fulfill our purpose of educating, empowering and witnessing the growth and positive change of young and seasoned talent which we are honoured to journey with.
Reflecting on some awesome achievements from 2019, we are proud to have retained our Level 1 B-BBEE status, and to have devoted continued focus on disability and inclusion which has supported the permanent appointment and retention of five Graduates living with a disability and one additional Graduate, creating six meaningful fulltime employment opportunities within KLM Empowered. We managed 70 projects nationally with success during 2019, exiting 231 Learners successfully in this cycle, and Graduating 188 Learners in this cycle! We are so grateful to have been able to make this impact.
The KLM Empowered Ubuntu Trust continued its work of supporting communities. We completed another successful Big Hearts Campaign, which saw the packing and distribution of 6276 lunch packs to communities in need around Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban. We also sponsored 8 soccer teams in the rural community of Noorpoort in the Northern Cape, and equipped Forest Town School for Learners with Special Needs with desks and cabinets. The trust additionally sponsored transport for Learners living with disability and sponsored Graduations nationally.
A big, hearty congratulations to Portia Matuludi who was promoted to GM: Business Intelligence/Compliance in 2019. Another big, hearty Congratulations to Nontombi Mkosana was promoted to Snr Manager: ICT and to our GM: Project Operations heading up the Knowledge X-Change Centre of Business Excellence in Bruma.
